Copy details

Hello and welcome to Late Stage Comedy, a new material comedy night giving performers the chance to test out new material and/or try something new in these strange and trying times. Doors 7:45, host on stage at 8.

"Like an actual comedy club, but on Zoom," The Edi Johnston Bit.

The event will be hosted in a (closed) Zoom event - we ask that audience members keep their cameras on and microphones unmuted so the performers receive live laughter, applause and encouragement.

Our fantastic line-up on 18th May as follows:

HEADLINE ACT: JAY SANDHU

Nottingham-based Jay Sandhu is a comedian, writer and poet. Punchy, informative and witty, his poetry and comedy focuses on race and culture. Jay is also part of the GOBS spoken word collective and has performed at Rooftop Comedy and at The Bradford Fringe. He has also headlined Poetry Scum and has recently had his poetry featured on BBC Radio Nottingham.

Jay also has a (covid-pending) feature comedy show coming up at Nottingham comedy festival. You can keep up to date with everything he is doing at Sandhuwrites.co.uk and across social media as @Sandhuwrites and @jaychatspodcast

ED SMYTH

Ed Smyth is an unique comic who serves up an absurdist and silly string of brain-twisty people and things such as Moe Bot the Comedy Robot, Bronco Brad The Croonin’ Cowboy, Oog Son of Ahg 30,000 BC, and more. He performed a weeklong show at the Rochester Virtual Fringe Festival in 2020, and has been a regular at the Finger Lakes Comedy Festival since 2016. He also produces his own feature show “Geek Comedy Hour” in performance spaces throughout the Northeast, along with a virtual weekly “Bronco Brad Dang Tootin’ Good Time Show”.

JIMI LONGMUIR

Punchline based observational/confessional comedian Jimi Longmuir wandered into comedy by mistake in Autumn 2018 and has kept going since then for some reason. He has kept performing in Lockdown on zoom gigs and podcasts, even starting his own 'Oh Lockdown. How We Laughed'.

He can be found across social media as jimijokk, and on his podcast - Anchor.fm/howwelaugh
GARETH BALL

Newcomer Gareth Ball is a high-energy, topical, observational storyteller.

AND YOUR HOSTS:

KITTY MESSALINA

Kitty Messalina is a triple threat - a queer woman of colour. Her unique perspectives on prejudice, promiscuity and polyamory quickly earned her a nomination as a Finalist for the NCF New Act of the Year Award 2019. With anecdotes about political foreplay, accidental threesomes and lesbian sheep, delivered with "an honesty and vivacity" (Notts Comedy Review), she’s excited to kick off this platform for new acts and new material.

Find her on Facebook - Facebook.com/kitty.messalina/

JOHN MORRIS

John Morris is absolutely no threat - a straight white man. John’s an improviser and a comedian from Nottingham. He also hosts the task-based panel show ‘Larklord’ for MissImp: Improv Comedy Nottingham. He’s also relatively excited about Late Stage Comedy, though he wrote this after designing all the posters, so who knows?
