PLUS  4 x ONE HOUR ONLINE SEMINARS:

(Seminars will be recorded and shared after the event)

Learn about creating a sitcom, from creating characters to building the situation, to writing scenes and constructing plots for TV and radio. Learn too about writing treatments, pitching sitcoms, making tasters & shorts, and other ways to progress. On the course you will work on a sitcom of your own, which can either be an idea you have been working on already or something new you create on the course. We'll look at creating characters, developing relationships, dialogue, plotting and more.

On each of the eight Thursdays during the course, briefing notes, tutorials and writing tasks will be released along with online videos to watch. You will also be invited to share your favourite scenes and shows for discussion and analysis. As the course progresses, you will share your developing scripts and sitcom treatments via Dropbox and you will receive personal feedback and guidance on developing your work during the week. On four Saturdays during the course, online via Zoom, there will be hour long online sessions where your questions are answered, further tips and advice is shared and feedback is give. You can attend these sessions live, or catch up with the full recording of the session after the event.

On the course you will learn how to:

- create characters and relationships.

– write scenes that are well structured, funny in themselves and drive the narrative forward.

– define character relationships and point-of-view in scenes.

– plot and structure a sitcom episode, including using the ‘set-pieces’ approach where you identify some big, funny scenes and then construct a narrative around them.

- write an effective treatment and construct a pitch.

You’re very welcome to book as an individual but if you are writing with someone already then if you can sign up as a duo to work together on your writing. (There is a discount for two people booking as a writing team).
