In a delightful twist, the Emmy Awards recently showcased a sketch titled 'Washington’s Dream,' brought to life by the comedic genius of 'Saturday Night Live' writers. Lorne Michaels, the legendary producer, didn't just give his nod of approval but generously shared his writing dream team to add some extra sparkle to the event.
Longtime 'SNL' writing partners Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, along with fellow 'SNL' scribe Mike DiCenzo, were roped in to sprinkle their magic on the Emmycast. This trio, known for their humorous prowess, previously penned the 'Washington’s Dream' sketches when Nate Bargatze hosted 'SNL.'
The Emmy sketch had been in the works for several weeks, with the executive producers ensuring Michaels' blessing before proceeding. This isn't the first collab for Day and Seidell with Bargatze, as they've previously teamed up for a Christmas special.
During the Emmy night, Day appeared alongside 'SNL' cast members James Austin Johnson and Bowen Yang, portraying lab assistants to Bargatze's character, Philo T. Farnsworth, the fictional inventor of television.
The night was a victory lap for 'SNL,' as it also bagged a record 113th Emmy Award. Lorne Michaels couldn't resist a cheeky quip about production costs during his acceptance speech, proving once again that comedy and awards go hand in hand.
