Qantas Upgrades Earnings Forecast, After Anika Wells Announces Plans for “Work Trip”

Qantas has sharply upgraded its earnings guidance this morning, after Government minister Anika Wells opened her calendar and said the words “do you want to join me on a work trip?” to her family.

Analysts say Qantas shares jumped the moment Wells typed “New York fli –” into a government laptop.

A Qantas spokesperson said the airline was delighted to support the Minister’s important work of spending time with loved ones in locations that coincidentally coincide with major sporting events and require business-class seats.

“We don’t normally update our profit guidance mid-week,” the spokesperson said. “But when a federal minister even thinks about having a weekend away, that’s basically a guaranteed quarter of revenue for us. It would be irresponsible not to alert investors”.

Internal Treasury modelling shows that the national carrier’s margin improves by up to 12% each time a Government minister types “accommodation + close to beach + work-related?” into Google.
