Kmart has playfully admitted to moving its checkouts to the center of the store in all 324 Australian locations just to keep things interesting. Despite data indicating the front of the store would be more logical, the change was driven by a desire to amuse both staff and shoppers.

According to a company spokesperson, the idea was conceived after analyzing shopper data and having a few wines on a Friday night. The relocation creates a fun challenge for customers as they wander through point-of-purchase displays set up like a labyrinth.

Staff, who find working at Kmart a bit dull, enjoy the occasional chuckle as they watch customers try to figure out how to pay for their items. The real kicker is sending them back to the front of the store to show proof of purchase before they can leave.
