Electricians across Australia are buzzing with excitement over a new government policy that promises three hours of free power daily, starting in 2026. Described as a 'once-in-a-generation economic opportunity,' this initiative is expected to lead Australians to turn on every appliance they own simultaneously, potentially causing electrical chaos.
Trevor Broughton, an electrician, has already doubled his hourly rate and booked a European holiday, anticipating a surge in demand. 'I'm going to be booked solid until at least 2032,' he says with confidence.
Broughton has discussed the policy with customers eager to enjoy free power, even if it means blowing up their home's electrical system. One Sydney resident, whose house hasn't been re-wired since 1931, plans to maximize the free power hours by running multiple appliances at once. 'I'll do a load of washing and drying, put on the dishwasher, crank up the heating, turn on the aircon, switch on the Christmas lights, boil the kettle, turn on the pool pump, dry my hair, charge the EV, switch on my crypto mining rig and toast a few loaves of bread,' he enthusiastically shares.
The government defends the scheme as a 'bold step towards energy affordability and indoor combustion,' while Broughton notes that the potential savings for consumers are conveniently equal to his new call-out rate. Looks like electricians are in for a shockingly lucrative year!
